What will you find here?

Our congregation is a place where Jewish and non-Jewish people gather to worship the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. We study the Tenach (Jewish Scriptures) and the Brit Chadashah (New Covenant) as one text. Since we recognize that the foundations of our faith are Jewish, we emphasize and express our Jewish heritage through biblically based, culturally relevant worship and holiday observances. In addition, we endeavor to develop a Messianic mishpochah (family) that pursues healthy, loving, spiritual relationships through the framework of a believing, caring community.

What is the basis for our beliefs?

We believe that the Jewish Scriptures predicted the coming of the Messiah through whom one could experience not only the atonement (forgiveness) of sins, but also a personal relationship with God. For example, concerning Messiah, these Scriptures teach us that He would:

  • be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2)
  • come before the destruction of the Jewish temple in 70 CE (Daniel 9:24-25)
  • have a miraculous birth (Isaiah 7:14)
  • be despised and rejected by his people (Isaiah 53:3)
  • die for us by crucifixion (Psalm 22:16; Isaiah 53:5)
  • be resurrected from the dead (Psalm 16:10)

What is our purpose?

Our purpose at Shuvah Yisrael is to establish a Messianic Jewish family whose members are mutually committed to each other’s growth and edification as we share the message of Yeshua, the Messiah of Israel, with the Jewish people.

We recognize that the Brit Chadashah was originally offered to the Jewish nation in a Jewish context (Jeremiah 31:31). Indeed, most, if not all, of the Brit Chadashah was authored by Jewish writers. The early believing community was composed almost entirely of Jewish people. Because of this, it is our earnest desire to correctly present the Messiah of Scripture to the Jewish community in the Jewish context in which He came. We are a warm, caring community of people where all will hear about Yeshua in a Jewishly-oriented, sensitive environment.
